Jinx is a celebrity black cat with hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter.
The famous feline with round staring eyes and over-sized paws made history as the first feline Mayor of Hell, a small community in Livingston County, Michigan.
She received the keys to the gates of Hell and ruled as mayor for one day, starting at 4:00 p.m., April 24, 2022.
Jinx has big eyes and wonky paws
Jinx’s journey to becoming mayor started when Mia, a resident of California, adopted her after finding her alone on a field near her house in 2018.
She looked like any other kitten when Mia first rescued her at about three weeks old.
However, as Jinx grew up, Mia noticed she was an unusual cat. Her staring emerald eyes grew rounder and larger, and her malformed feet started to look wonkier.
Jinx is healthy but has birth defects
Most cats are agile, quick, and nimble on their feet. But Jinx walks with an unusual gait due to her crooked paws.
It took her time and lots of practice to learn how to land on her feet when she jumped from a height.
The cat’s awkward physical appearance and malformed limbs made Mia fear she had a health condition. So she took her to the vet for a check-up.
The vet looked Jinx over and concluded that her strange and awkward features were due to birth defects.
While the defects made her weird-looking, awkward and clumsy, she was healthy.
She won hearts on social media
Mia shares photos of Jinx’s everyday life on social media, including Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. The cat also has a Twitch channel.
Although her birth defects deprived her of feline grace and agility, she won the hearts of many on social media.
As of August 11, 2023, Jinx had more than 488k followers on Instagram, 844.3k followers on TikTok, and nearly 319k on Twitter.
How Jinx became the Mayor of Hell
In April 2002, Mia began inquiring from Jinx’s social media fans whether they knew of any town or city that would let her cat run for mayor.
“Isn’t there some town that made a dog the mayor, can we make Jinx mayor or something somewhere,” Mia tweeted on April 8, 2022.
Her inquiries started as a joke, and many Twitter users responded likewise.
Mia was surprised when some fans took the inquiry seriously and offered helpful information.
Some residents of a Michigan town with the ominous name Hell, informed Mia that anyone (human or animal) could become mayor for a donation.
However, Jinx did not personally have to travel to Hell to become mayor.
Reverend Vonn of Hell swore her in as Mayor of Hell over the phone at 4 p.m. E.T, while Mia broadcast the ceremony on the cat’s Twitch page.
