A cruise captain and her Sphynx cat are making netizens dream of exotic vacation spots. Cat and owner have become internet sensations. More than 370,000 people follow the adventures of Kate McCue and her partner in crime Bug Naked.
Hailing from San Francisco, Kate McCue routinely posts videos and photos of her travels on Instagram. Besides these stunning images, she also provides an insight into an unusual career path.
Kate McCue became the first American woman to captain a big cruise ship in 2015. In 2019, she led Celebrity Cruises’ new flagship, the Celebrity Edge, a luxury ship costing about one billion dollars.
According to The Telegraph, McCue knew very early on (from age 12) that her dream job was to be a cruise captain and spend her time at sea.
The woman has worked in the cruise sector for over thirteen years and since October 14th, 2021, she has been in charge of the Beyond liner.
Bug Naked becomes a sailor
It didn’t take long for Captain Kate McCue of Celebrity Cruises to bring her hairless feline on board after obtaining her leadership position.
Kate Petrovic’s husband, Nikola Petrovic, a Fleet Chief Engineer with Virgin Excursions, isn’t always able to accompany her on her voyages; hence Bug makes for an excellent crewmate.
To fulfill her demanding job, she brings along the puss for moral support. Her cat regularly accompanies her at sea, to the great pleasure of Internet users.

The bio of Bug’s Instagram page reads:
“I am “lady” Bug Naked; an Elf Sphynx rocking the naked lifestyle, traveling the world & the seven seas with my hoo-mum @captainkatemccue.”
Followers can catch glimpses of the feline’s opulent existence, roaming around cruise liners and exploring the world’s most beautiful destinations.
Getaway states that Bug Naked is well cared for, as she receives monthly baths from her mother.
Unlike most other cat breeds, elven Sphynxes enjoy swimming because they rely on their owners to remove the oil from their skin.
Kate Mc Cue enjoys dressing up her companion, from a captain’s uniform and a pink tutu to a leopard print jacket, nothing is off limit for the fashionable puss.
Her followers cannot get enough of the adorable moggy, as user @Mia J runner exclaimed:
“Gosh darn, Bug. You’re as cute as a bug’s ear 🥰”
@PastorJeffro thinks the cat is the real chief of the vessel, stating:
